I work with neurodiverse teenagers and young adults in an individual, goal focussed way. They tell me how they are experiencing the world, what they would like to change and we find a way forward together. This could be anything from navigating social relationships, to finding alternatives to masking, dealing with sensory difficulties or how to self-advocate. It’s all about finding the tools and techniques that work for them.

Most importantly, we don’t have to be in the therapy room. We can go for a walk, meet at your house or have a chat on facetime. It’s up to you. I do need to ask a few questions so I can understand what is going on for you and hopefully by the end of the session we will have a list of goals that we can work towards together.
This is a really common concern! All you need to know is that it’s my job to ask questions so we can investigate what is going on together.
The first session is usually 60 minutes but after that the sessions will usually be 30 minutes. What I have found over the years of working with neurodiverse young people is that 30 minutes is plenty to keep things moving forward. CBT is a doing therapy so it’s more about what you try out in between the sessions so you can find out what works and what doesn’t work for you.
This depends on what we are working on but I try to keep sessions to a minimum. Because we work towards goals, therapy has a beginning, a middle and an end. We won’t drag it out!
